Fertility Treatments (IVF, IVM, IUI, ICSI, etc.)

There are a lot of fertility treatments that can help you get pregnant. Depending on your personal situation, you should choose the option that is best for you. The treatment can be for both of the partners of just one of them but in both scenarios, the couple should have each other’s back. There are medications that you can take to change your hormones density or even there are surgical procedures that can help drastically. The two most popular fertility treatments are intrauterine insemination and in vitro fertilization.

IRAN ranks first in the region in conducting research on fertility, infertility and fertility treatment (IVF, IVM, IMSI, ICSI, etc). Over the past years, Iran has made giant strides in fertility treatment studies to become a pioneering country in this field. Royan Institute, a world-renowned leader in the stem cell and embryology research, is an advanced research and treatment center with many astonishing achievements and developments, providing best paper selection awards and best research achievement awards in many countries throughout the years. The center has managed the first IVF birth (1993) and first frozen embryo birth in Tehran (1996).

The main benefit of a fertility treatment is achieving the goal of having a baby and becoming a parent. Thankfully, due to the development of new techniques and methodsmany couples become pregnant every year. Currently, we have witnessed a variety of Fertility Treatments and procedures available. Usually, the noninvasive procedures are used at first. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproductive technology (ART) commonly referred to as IVF. it is the process of fertilization by extracting eggs, retrieving a sperm sample, and then manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish. The embryo(s) is then transferred to the uterus.

There are high end hospitals with high success rates, equipped with modern and state-of-the-art technologies in Tehran, Yazd, and many other cities that offer help and assistance to those in need of fertility care. These centers supply advanced equipment of in vitro fertilizations(IVF) and offer excellent assistance in reproductive technology.

Services and treatments provided by these centers include Infertility clinics, Cell therapy centers, Stem cell biology and technology, Reproductive biomedicine, Endocrinology & Female fertility, Embryology, Reproductive Genetics, Epidemiology & Reproductive health, Reproductive Imaging and many more.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In Vitro Fertilization or IVF is one of the most common types of ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology). This technology helps with fertilization and implantation. There are a lot of people that use this treatment to get pregnant. For using In Vitro Fertilization treatment, the patient should take medicines to help sperm fertilize an egg. Taking these medications could take several months until eggs are ready for fertilization. IVF has some side effects and risks including bloating, headaches, mood swings, cramping, bleeding and more.

In Vitro Maturation (IVM)

Like In Vitro Fertilization, In Vitro Maturation (IVM) is also an ART (assisted reproductive technology). In this process, surgeons collect eggs from a woman. These eggs should be collected before they are matured with injections of hormones. Then these eggs matured in a culture by adding hormones to them. Success rates for a cycle of In Vitro Maturation are around 32 percent and it costs from 5 to 7 thousands dollars. Compared to In Vitro Fertilization this is a much lower price but you should know that IVF success rates are around 40 percent for a single cycle.

Egg and Ovarian Cortex Freezing

Egg freezing is a great option for women who can’t have kids due to different reasons like stage 4 endometriosis. Egg freezing works for about 43 percent of women who undergo IVF; meaning that 43 percent of eggs result in a live birth. Other than egg freezing there is another option named ovarian cortex freezing. Ovarian cortex freezing has a 37 percent success rate but according to a study, this procedure can reverse menopause and return natural fertility.

Egg Donation and Sperm Donation

As you know there are a lot of IVF treatment types that can have different outcomes. One of the most popular forms of IVF includes using micromanipulation equipment for injection of a sperm into the egg. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection is a very sensitive procedure and should be performed very carefully by a proficient embryologist. Any couple that has a problem with the sperm quality can use this method to get a satisfying result. But you should be aware that ICSI is not helpful for normal sperm assessment.

IMSI

Scientists can use a microscope with a high-magnification digital imaging that can examine and select sperm. This process is called intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm and it is very practical for examining the individual sperms of anyone who have low numbers of sperm or a high percentage of unusually shaped sperms. This procedure can cost almost 200 dollars but it is a much better way of selecting and observing sperms than traditional methods. The scientists can easily identify abnormal sperms from the normal ones.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an assisted reproductive technology which involves injecting a single sperm directly into a mature egg. Once the egg is fertilized, it can be placed in the woman’s uterus. This procedure is mainly used to treat conditions of male infertility, such as low sperm count, vasectomy or low sperm motility. ICSI may also be recommended if there were problems during previous IVF fertilization processes.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Any couple who suffer from low sperm count and of course the low mobility of sperm can use intrauterine insemination. But be aware that women with a history of infections and disease of the fallopian tubes should not use this method.

Microdissection TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction)

More than 50 percent of the couples dealing with infertility, suffering from male factor infertility. Men who don’t have any sperm in the ejaculate, suffer from the most severe type of infertility named azoospermia. Microdissection TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction) is the best and most standard method of retrieving sperm that many people use and get very helpful results. Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS)

Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) involves the removal of one or more cells from an IVF or ICSI embryo to test for Chromosomal abnormalities, which are the main cause of implant embryo failures and miscarriages. This procedure may be recommended for couples being treated by IVF or ICSI due to fertility issues. PGS provides the ability to avoid having a child at a high risk of having genetic disease, before implantation.

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)

To prevent various genetic diseases or disorders, it is best to identify genetic defects in embryos. This process is called preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and it should take place before starting the implantation. Women who are 35 or more and of course women who carry single gene disorders are the prime candidates for preimplantation genetic diagnosis. Because PGD takes place before implantation, the couple can freely think about their decision before the pregnancy. Lastly, you should know that PGD can take more than several weeks and you should be prepared for it.

Reproductive Surgery

Before starting any procedure and taking action for fertility purposes, women should go under a comprehensive fertility evaluation.
